Launched on Earth Day 2014, Re-Centre is an automated bag-drop redemption centre concept currently being tested in the Moncton region. It is one of the many recycling pilot projects lead by Encorp Atlantic with the aim of revolutionizing beverage container recycling.
During phase 1 of the project, two Re-Centre depots offered recycling services in the Moncton region to 2,500 participants for a 36 month test period. Participants provided Encorp with valuable feedback as well as data on consumer recycling habits and patterns.
Since October 1, 2017, the Re-Centre pilot project has entered Phase 2 (which is set to run until March 31, 2019). Encorp Atlantic is collaborating with a local redemption centre, Valley Redemption Centre, to see how well the Re-Centre model performs in a real-time redemption centre environment, collect missing data and fine-tune some of its components. Valley Redemption Centre is responsible for daily operations of the two Re-Centre depots. Encorp Atlantic manages communications, member services, and member accounts.
Now that Phase 2 of the Re-Centre pilot project is well underway, the Re-Centre recycling experience can be opened up to new participants! However, since Re-Centre is still a pilot project, the number of available spots will be limited to facilitate research and data collection during Phase 2, which is set to run until March 31, 2019.
The sign-up form is available on the Re-Centre website.
