Ceramic Beverage Container Pickup (Fall 2024)

Hello redemption centre operators,

Encorp is arranging a special pickup with Rayan Environmental Solutions of ceramic beverage containers that may have accumulated in redemption centres (RCs) since last year. Ceramic was discontinued as an acceptable beverage container type. All beverage products sold in ceramic containers were removed from store shelves (Alcool NB Liquor) last year (July 2023).

We ask that you kindly prepare all the ceramic beverage containers you may have collected in your centre for pickup. Rayan will collect these containers from all RCs during their scheduled glass pickups throughout the week of November 25, 2024.

Due to potential contamination issues, any ceramic beverage containers you may have on-site should ALWAYS be kept well separated from other material types. You may use old storage boxes/bins/plastic bags or any other type of storage to keep them together and separated from the other material types, and you will be returned this chosen method of storage during pick up, as Rayan will have a large tub on their truck in which they will dump these stored ceramics for transportation.

Since beverage products in ceramic containers were removed from all store shelves over a year ago, we anticipate very small volumes – if any – of these being brought to RCs by customers moving forward. We will thus continue to monitor volumes and arrange special pickups as deemed necessary or, at minimum, once yearly, every fall. RCs can follow these guidelines:

  • Issue the full 20-cent deposit refund per container to the customer(s). (Consumers would have paid a 20-cent deposit for the most part for these types of containers as they were mainly used for specialty wines.)
  • Enter the quantities in Sort 18 – Brown Glass (Alcohol > 500 ml)to track them for payment in the EnSys-Connex point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Keep the ceramic containers stored separately somewhere in your centre until the next special pickup, and NEVERmix them with Sort 18 containers or any other containers.

Please also note that any customer education posters related to ceramic beverage containers that you would have received from Encorp last year should now also be removed from your premises, as they do not include the Recycle NB logo on them and were created before the start of the new EPR Beverage Containers Program. (All consumer-facing posters and educational flyers Encorp has sent to RCs for the new EPR Program feature a Recycle NB logo next to Encorp’s – we encourage you to check around your centre and discard any old Encorp posters without this logo.)

We greatly appreciate your cooperation and adherence to these instructions. If you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Operations, Gilles Doucette.
