Dalhousie Regional High School Students Finish School Year with Cleanup Event Teaching Importance of Taking Care of Our Earth

Students in Grades 6, 7 and 8 at Dalhousie Regional High School (Dalhousie, NB) recently held a school grounds cleanup event on June 23, 2021, picking up litter and discarded recyclables around the schoolyard and the soccer fields, as well as the community surrounding the school.  Teacher Donna Webb was inspired to organize the event for her school after hearing about the Loïck project “Helping Mother Earth” movement this past spring and seeing ads for Encorp Atlantic’s 2021 Recycling Heroes Community Cleanup Grants.  She believes it is important to teach students the importance of taking care of our earth. What better way than to do a hands-on activity that demonstrates the harmful effects of litter on our planet and empowers the students to take action!

Over 50 students took part in the day’s cleanup event – their combined efforts resulted in 10 bags being filled with discarded litter and recyclable items.  The students enjoyed a beautiful day outdoors while working hard and enhancing their team-building skills throughout the day as they teamed up to find and pick up litter items – all the while ensuring any recyclables found would be placed in the school’s recycling bins.  Madame Donna says the students definitely gaining a better appreciation for keeping their community clean from this activity.  At the end of the day, the students even celebrated their cleanup efforts with some well-deserved pizza and ice cream.

Awesome job, Dalhousie Regional High School! What a great way to end the school year! Keep spreading the anti-litter message and leading by example by ensuring your school grounds and community remain beautiful and clean!
