Encorp’s Recycling Heroes in School program is off to a fantastic start and has recently finished its first semester of the 2024-2025 school year. Now in its second year, the program continues to grow, with over 80 schools across New Brunswick actively participating to make a positive impact on the environment by recycling deposit-bearing beverage containers.
NB Schools Recycle 475,000 Beverage Containers
From September to December 2024, 39 new schools joined the Recycling Heroes in School program, contributing to a collective effort that has already recycled an impressive number of containers. In only a few short months, all participating schools collectively managed to recycle 475,000 containers. Recycling that many containers means that the schools would have collectively raised nearly $49,000!
Rewards for Recycling
Aside from supporting schools in setting up beverage container recycling programs, Encorp also rewards schools for their recycling achievements. The top 5 performing schools, determined by the ratio of containers recycled per student, will receive rewards for their outstanding efforts. The schools shown above are currently leading the way with exceptional results, but there’s still plenty of time for other schools to climb the rankings before the school year ends.
Get Your Community Involved!
Is your school aiming to be one of the top-performing schools and receive a reward? In the previous school year, the most successful schools had one thing in common: they actively involved their communities in their recycling efforts.
Your community can help support your school’s recycling efforts. Hosting bottle drives is an effective way to quickly collect more containers and raise funds for your school. Community members can also recycle their containers at a redemption centre under your school’s account, effectively donating their deposit refunds to your school.
If your school needs help getting its community involved, Encorp has a fundraising toolkit on its website. This includes checklists, guides, and templates that schools can use to organize and promote their recycling initiatives effectively.
We’re Looking Forward to Seeing How Much These Schools Recycle
The Recycling Heroes in School program has made an incredible start to the 2024-2025 school year. With so many schools actively participating and new ones joining each semester, the future looks bright for beverage container recycling in New Brunswick schools. We can’t wait to see how many containers are recycled by the end of the year and to reward these dedicated schools for their recycling efforts.
If your school isn’t part of Encorp’s Recycling Heroes in School program yet, there’s still time to join! Visit our school program page for more information and to apply today.
