Despite the intense heat we had in June this summer, the Recycling Heroes from Perth-Andover Middle School managed to find a bearable time to get outside and help clean up their community! Around 50 impressive students put in the effort to improve their public outdoor spaces for their school’s cleanup event.
Beating the Heat
The Perth-Andover cleanup day had initially been planned for early in June, on a day that ended up being the hottest day of the school year. While the students couldn’t go out to clean in that heat, that wasn’t going to stop these Recycling Heroes from making a difference! As soon as the temperature cooled down enough for the students to safely spend time outside the following week, they got to work cleaning up all the garbage, recyclables, and beverage containers littering the ground around their school.
A Permanent Solution
Some of the money from Encorp’s Community Cleanup Grant was put towards supplies, such as garbage catchers for the students, and refreshments for the students when they were finished. However, the staff and students of Perth-Andover Middle School all agreed that what they could really use to solve the litter issue is new outdoor garbage cans. So, the remainder of the grant money will be going toward that project once the new school year starts.
Thank you so much to the students at Perth-Andover Middle School for working around the gruelling summer heat in order to make their community a cleaner and healthier place to be. Encorp is happy to have been able to help these students with their cleanup event and hopes that their plan for a new outdoor garbage bin helps keep their school grounds clean!
