MONCTON, NB – OCTOBER 15, 2024 – Encorp Atlantic/Encorp Atlantique (“Encorp”) is excited to announce the opening of a new beverage container redemption centre in Saint-Louis-de-Kent.
Opening today, October 15, 2024, Recyclage Beaurivage Recycling at 10148 Route 134 will provide local residents with a nearby option for redeeming and recycling their empty beverage containers. This is welcome news for residents who had been storing containers at home or opting to drive to other redemption centres to redeem them since the previous Saint-Louis-de-Kent facility closed earlier this past spring.
The new centre — open Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — will provide full deposit refunds on all eligible beverage containers. Since April 1, 2024, the Beverage Containers Program — managed by Encorp under an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model—has been offering full refunds on beverage container deposits instead of half. This change is part of the Program’s transition to having the beverage industry manage beverage container recycling as one of the designated materials regulated by Recycle NB under the Designated Materials Regulation (Clean Environment Act).
In response to the community’s need for a new facility, Encorp consulted with local leaders and issued a request for proposals to local businesses earlier this past summer.
Pierre Landry, Encorp’s CEO, expressed his enthusiasm about the new redemption centre, stating, “We’re delighted to reintroduce this service to Saint-Louis-de-Kent, offering residents a close and convenient option to recycle their deposit-bearing beverage containers. Our aim is to boost used beverage container recycling rates by making it as easy, convenient and accessible as possible. Expanding the amount of return locations or drop-off points to ensure that New Brunswickers have nearby options within their communities will be a key priority as we work on strategies to modernize and enhance the beverage container return and redemption experience.”
Bruce LeBlanc and Marlene Noel, owners of the new Recyclage Beaurivage Recycling are looking forward to opening their doors. “We are very excited about this new venture and are happy to be bringing recycling back to the community of Saint-Louis-de-Kent. We welcome everyone to our new location starting Tuesday, October 15.”
“Recycle NB is pleased that Encorp is once again expanding its network of redemption centres across the province,” added Timothy LeBlanc, CEO of Recycle NB, the agency that oversees waste management programs for designated materials. “Increasing recovery rates for used beverage containers means more materials such as plastics and aluminum are recycled into new products, as opposed to ending up in our landfills. This will have a positive impact on our environment and benefit New Brunswickers for generations to come.
