Hello Redemption Centre Operators,
Encorp is excited to announce the launch of a new campaign in May: Reduce Waste. This campaign educates consumers on how to prepare their beverage containers before returning them to a redemption centre (RC) and promotes best practices to minimize waste throughout the recycling process.
As part of this initiative, you will receive new Reduce Waste posters and handouts later this month. These materials are intended to replace the existing “How to Prepare Your Beverage Containers” posters and handouts. Once the new materials arrive, please remove the existing posters and handouts and replace them with the Reduce Waste versions.
Most of the information shared with consumers through this campaign aligns with current practices. However, please note the following new instructions:
- Caps: Customers are asked to leave caps on containers. Caps should remain on containers when they are placed in bulk bags or tubs.
- Straws: Customers are asked to push attached straws (i.e. the straws from juice boxes) into containers. Straws should remain inside containers when placed in bulk bags or tubs.
- Wine boxes: Customers are asked to return wine bladders intact inside wine boxes. Once you have refunded your customer, remember to remove the bladders from their boxes, and to put all bladders into Sort/SKU 11 and wine boxes into Sort/SKU 28.
Additional details about the Reduce Waste campaign are provided in a new page for your Operations & Logistics Binder, which is included with this notice. You will also receive a printed copy of this page for you to place in your binder by mail when you receive the Spring 2026 RC Journal in May.
At the same time, we are also pleased to provide all RCs with Sort Lists printed on corrugated plastic. There are no changes to the Sort List – these copies are being provided as a more durable reference for you and your staff.
