Dear beverage product producers and retailers,
With the upcoming implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for beverage containers in Prince Edward Island (PEI), consumers will soon receive full refunds on beverage container deposits. Starting April 1, 2026, deposits paid on beverage products will be fully returned when empty containers are recycled at designated return locations.
Encorp’s “Worth the Return. Empties Now Mean Full Refunds.” campaign will promote this change through online, traditional advertising, and in-person education at return locations across PEI. Retailers are invited to support the initiative by using Encorp’s in-store display and point-of-purchase materials, which highlight the benefits of recycling and direct consumers to Encorp’s new consumer education website in PEI—worththereturn.ca (launching April 1, 2026)—for more information. Furthermore, Encorp’s Retail Promotions Toolkit includes standard messaging which can be used to inform consumers about the new container recycling fee (CRF) on deposit-bearing beverage products.
To access these resources, as well as important information retailers should know about the new EPR Program, please visit our PEI Retail Promotions Toolkit webpage. Retailers may request free printed copies of the full kit from Encorp and/or download the high-resolution files to adapt in-house with their own marketing materials. The use of these materials is optional but encouraged. If your establishment would like free printed copies of the retail kit, please let us know by Friday, March 6 ([email protected]) to ensure you receive your kits before April 1st. Please include the number of kits you would like to receive along with the mailing address where to send the kits in your reply.
