How To Spot Meal Replacements & Formulated Liquid Diets

We’ve recently seen an increase in Meal Replacement and Formulated Liquid Diet containers being included in bulk bags during quality control checks. We understand these products can be tricky to identify, especially when staff are sorting quickly. Here are some tips to help staff with sorting.

What to watch for:

  • Containers labeled “Meal Replacement” or “Formulated Liquid Diet” are not eligible for a refund. These labels are typically found near the bottom of the container.
  • Products labeled “Nutritional Supplement” are deposit-bearing and eligible for a refund. Always check the label when you receive a container that looks like a Nutritional Supplement. These products often look nearly identical to non-refundable ones, and may even share the same brand and product name. For example, two versions of Ensure High Protein exist: one is a Nutritional Supplement (refundable), the other is a Meal Replacement (non-refundable).

What to do when a customer hands you a Meal Replacement or Formulated Liquid Diet:

  • Politely explain that it’s not eligible for a refund.
  • Refer customers to Encorp’s poster for clarification and/or offer them one of our handouts. If you’re running low on handouts, let us know and we will send you more.
