The 2024–2025 school year was another standout year for Encorp’s Recycling Heroes in School program, with 95 schools actively participating by year-end. The program helps students understand the value of recycling while raising funds by collecting deposit-bearing beverage containers. Each participating school designates a group of Recycling Ambassadors: a class, grade level, student committee, or eco-club tasked with leading the school’s beverage container recycling efforts for the year. These ambassadors assume key responsibilities, including monitoring and emptying bins, educating fellow students about proper recycling practices, and collaborating with teachers, parent groups, and volunteers to coordinate school-wide bottle drives and awareness activities.
Thanks to ongoing collaboration with their local redemption centres (RCs), participating schools collected more than 900,000 containers. We’re proud to recognize this year’s top-performing schools:
- Académie Notre-Dame
Partner RC: Billy’s Bottle Exchange (Dalhousie, NB) - Janeville Elementary School
Partner RC: Atlantic Bottle Exchange Centre (Bathurst, NB) - École Camille-Vautour
Partner RC: Saint-Antoine Bottle Exchange (St. Antoine, NB) - Deer Island Community School
Partner RC: Charlotte County Can & Bottle (St. George, NB) - École Léandre-LeGresley
Partner RC: Recyclage Caraquet (Caraquet, NB)
Explore their success stories and how they’ve made recycling a school-wide mission in our end-of-year blog post.
Recruitment for the 2025–2026 school year will begin this fall. Our goal is to welcome 50 new schools annually until nearly every school in New Brunswick is participating. The program is free to join and includes recycling bins, logistical support, and classroom-ready educational resources. Learn more at encorpatl.ca/recycle.
